A neighbour has given me a lovely bag of plums - maybe 1.5kg of them. We are not going to eat that many fresh, so hit me with some inspiration for turning them into plummy goodness, maybe of the cake variety πŸ˜‰πŸ˜„!

not really I just cook the fruit till softish then mix butter, brown or caster sugar, flour and half a cup of oats put on top and bake in  the oven

Crumble is basically the only thing that turns out for me!

I think I use 1.5C cup flour, then guess the rest- it has never not turned out

so sadly not much help really lol!

Jam, can't go past jam. My mother is currently making massive pots. We have 2 plum trees. She has about 5 or more Kilo to turn into jam.

She gives it to her friends, I don't eat jam.

Once you have jam you can ripple it through cakes or ice cream.

plum tarte tatin? i don’t have a recipe as such, and they’re usually done with apples or pear, but you could do it with plums (google should yield many results) you would have to peel them though....and if they are very ripe it may not work....if you do it, i recommend Careme brand pre rolled puff pastry.

I adore plum jam but haven’t ever made it myself.

Here are a few ideas for other recipes

Oooh we have a huge crop of plums at the moment. Ive been giving the kids 2 each in their lunches, and mushing them up for baby food.

You can make stir fry sauce for pork, plum chilli relish, do them with crepes, put them in a salad with parmesan or fetta.  Jamie Oliver has a polish plum cake recipe.

Anyone know how to make polish plum spirits? :D

We have hundreds of plums on our tree at the moment.  I'm planning to make worcestershire sauce this weekend.  No need to pit the plums beforehand which is my kind of recipe.

I had no idea Worcestershire sauce was based on plums! Have bookmarked that recipe πŸ˜€.

I ended up making this one:

Chinese style plum sauce that can go with stirfries, or as a marinade with meats, or to glaze roasts.

I'm going to try that dumpling recipe! Love that it can be savoury, and uses up breadcrumbs, which I always have a lot of on hand.

I edited because the first recipe I found used a cube of sugar in each dumpling and no breadcrumbs - it wasn't Baka's knedle!!

Her children would actively search for cheap plums just so she would "have" to make knedle.

I was coming here to post the Hungarian equivalent:
http://www.junemeyer...mdumplings.html

Neither recipe mentions it, but it's best to take the pit out of the plum before cooking, and add a small quantity (1/2 tsp?) of sugar in the cavity. If you have leftover dough, roll it into a long thin (like your pinky) rope, cut into 2-3cm lengths and fry in the breadcrumbs.

So hungry now.

Edited for grammar.
