NDIS funding

I am fortunate enough to have funding for a support workers and cleaner through NDIS, considering how things are now with covid 19 I’m reconsidering having none family in the home.

My son has pulmonary hypertension which means a Picc line into his heart with medication running 24hrs a day keeping him  a live any illness could kill him.


I’m concerned that if I don’t engage with support workers and cleaners and I don’t use the funding this year the next review I’ll lose it all.

I guess I’m wondering if anyone have stopped support services during this time?

Yes we no longer have a cleaner, one support worker decided he was too much risk to our family and we have put another one on hiatus.  Cancelled two workers who took DS2 to his day program.  Cancelled the day program altogether.

Cancelled physio and OT.  DS1 might be continuing with his psych if he can manage to do zoom sessions.

The only service we are continuing with is our dietician as she's doing phone consults and it is easy to do those.

I'm really not bothered we are no longer spending funding because the NDIS has said really clearly nobody will lose funding they have not spent due to COVID-19.  The stampede to review and the AAT would be extreme and they won't do that, IMO.

Our therapist are all doing zoom now (expecting a failure). Last year due to life circumstances we didnt use half of our funding. At review i stated why and no funding was lost. I have also read ndis rules with covid19 and in my opinion you will be fine with no loss of funding.

You only  just need to justify why the funds weren’t spent as intended, and covid-19 is one of the best reasons I can think of for this. You won’t lose funding if you explain your reasons.
We used under 30% of funds for both of the two plans we have in our family one year, and we just explained why that was, and the following plan was for even more than the plan we didn’t spend.

Hmmmmm our OT and Psyc are also doing zoom meetings, psyc was on Wednesday my son absolutely refused to do it,

being autistic he said he can’t read the body language and having to look at someone through video meant eye contact which he didn’t like doing.

OT was yesterday we just turned the laptop around so my son could hear and talk with the OT but not see him.

That worked really well maybe that would work for you

I had a telehealth appt with my physio yesterday. I kept the video off when I signed on, so only had voice.

The boys will do their OT online and I am trying to set up 19yo's psych with online appts.

We are currently on a two week break, as I decided our family should self isolate as much as possible due to my asthma, so I rang up and paused all appointments.

Our ST and OT are now working remotely, as the office has shut down temporarily.

With ST, we are hoping to Skype and with the OT, the OT is writing up a plan to coach DH and I to do various hands on activities with DS. I also bought a fit ball online, so we can start doing some activities at home to build up his upper body and core strength.

When does the plan run out?
Atm plans are automatically being extended, for up to 24 months.
IF people are happy with their funds - and the NDIS is allowing flexibility across budgets.

So, if you don't spend the funds, it wont matter, the plan will just rollover.

MANY people have canceled support services at the moment, you have to do what's right for you and your family :)
