Mikayla was due to arrive on the 16th December
2001- I didn't want to go over just in case we went
into Christmas. I don't think children should share
their birthday with anything or anyone. A birthday is
special to the individual so when I went in for my
check up on the 18th December I was hoping they
would induce me. My blood pressure was up and I
was blown up like a balloon. Sure enough they
said to come back at 9:30pm and I would be
induced.
I arrived at 9:30 with nothing to do but wait- the
midwife came in with the gel at 10:30 and my
contractions basically started straight away. My
mum told me my whole pregnancy that you look
forward to the break you get inbetween
contractions- well she lied, I didn't get any break. I
think I had about 4 hours sleep that night. I got the
drip put on at 6am. I called DH & my mum to come
in cause I was in pain.
To make a long story short- I was in labour for 20
hours, threw up all the way through it,
hyperventulated in the spa and nearly went under
when the midwife & DH had to drag me out, and I
only got to 3cm dialated when the epidural went in.
I was lucky to have a little bit of sleep until Mikayla's
heart rate went down to 40bpm and they raced me
to surgery for a C-section. Mikayla was born at
5:45pm on the 19th December, 2001. She
weighed 7lb 1oz and was 69cm long.
Now she is 9 months old and I would go through
all of it again if I had to. She is definately worth it.
