Well I never thought my second birth would be replica of the first!!

Like my first daughter my water broke at 5.00am in the morning.  Whilst lying
in bed I remember that warm wet sensation all too well, then getting up I realised
the entire bed was wet…….how lovely for me!!!

This time we took our time getting to hospital as I had a feeling I would be induced as
it was already 8.00am by the time we got there and I hadn’t experienced any contractions.
My Ob was already there delivering a baby so I only waited 5 minutes before he came to
examine me and I was only 1cm, so of course on the drip I go.  Much to my horror within
20 minutes of being on the drip the contractions were coming every 5 minutes for 40 seconds,
then after an hour they were coming every 2 minutes for 60 seconds.  After 3 hours of that and
bouncing up and down on the ball I decided to ask the midwife to check to see how far dilated
I was and I was only 3cm.  My Ob came in and increased the drip and within 30 minutes I was
calling for an epi.  It then took the him another 40 minutes to arrive and another 20 minutes to get
it in after several painful failed attempts, even then it wasn’t working properly as I could feel most
of the pain.  Within 1 hour I was 5cm and could feel the pressure of her head dropping (thanks to the
failed epidural), I kept on informing the midwives that I could feel this pressure and that something
was about to happing SOON, but they wouldn’t believe that I could go from 5cm to 10 cm in 10 minutes.
When my Ob came in 20 minutes later and saw me panting, he did a check and sure enough I was
10cm.  Thank god…. now I can push, it only took two pushes to push the head and one push for the rest
of her, no stitches this time for me.  She was absolutely beautiful, so tinny, only 3kg’s and 49cm long with the most amazing amount of black hair
