My 4 month old is very easily startled. Usually its when she's feeding. She'll be sucking away contentedly, not necessarily even drifting off to sleep, and then if anyone even speaks in a quiet voice she gets such a fright that she nearly jumps out of her skin, and starts crying. It mainly happens with her before bed feed. Last night she was feeding beautifully (which is a rarity for her pre bedtime feed) and my toddler went past and made a noise, and she just burst into tears and refused to feed after that. She got such a huge fright that she kicked the side of the chair really hard and bent back her big toenail! She then got absolutely hysterical and wouldn't settle or feed again for another hour. Why do minor noises startle her so much when she's feeding? Anyone else experienced this?

Yes! My DS has done this a few times as well. Heaven help me if I feel a sneeze coming on while he's feeding.

my boy is the same but also when he is sleeping if he hears a noise he'll startle and take for ever to go back to sleep!
