I am hoping that someone might be able to help. My 2 year old is fighting having a sleep during the day and becomes extremely tired at around 3.30 and is asking to go to bed at 5.30 (so then is up really early). He also is still waking at least once a night...he is in a bed so comes running in to us. The funny think is he started 1 day of daycare last week and has slept at daycare both times! He stays with his Nan for 2 days a week and will never sleep for her.
I have still been giving him a bottle (I know he is a bit old) but this is the only thing that quietens him. When he does sleep, he drinks his bottle and then drifts off. If he doesn't sleep he gets really quiet (almost asleep) and then starts to make noises and move around and then jumps up. I have tried reading a book/quiet activities but he really fights.
My girls both gave up day sleeps in their beds at about 18months, I just couldn't force the issue, and so we have quiet time in front of a video:( It works though both get a drink in a non-spill cup (we had the same bottle thing) and have their blanket over their knees. Ds is in bed so I remove myself from the room and stay quiet probably 6/10 times dd2 2 and a half will drift off. Even if she doesn't though the quiet time does her and dd1 good then we get active again turn the telly off and get out in the back yard. I also will keep her up until normal bedtime 7:30pm Even if I have to give her a bath etc We may read stories early so she is in bed at exactly 7.30 but I can't deal with her getting up before 7am - NOT a morning person LOL

My 22 month old daughter is doing the same and has for a couple of months. I don't really have a solution for you as I'm still trying to work one out myself but at least you know you're not the only one!
Ella is in daycare 3 days and sleeps there for up to an hour (probably because the other kids do too). The other 4 days that I have her at home, she may sleep 1 or 2 of them. The other two days I just put her in the cot and she plays for about an hour but I often end up with a tired toddler at about 3.30pm. I just keep her up until around normal bedtime (7 or 7.30).
More than anything I find it frustrating because if I knew she wasn't going to sleep on that day, I wouldn't bother putting her to bed! Also, when she is tired, she doesn't really eat her dinner and tends to throw it on the floor or turn up her nose.
