I gave birth in the RPA birth centre. My prenatal care there was excellent - never kept waiting long. My actual delivery I spent some time in the labour ward and some in the birth centre - both the facilities are fabulous (new, spacious, big baths, multihead showers, balls, beanbags, etc), but the staff were very busy...I think that's probably the case for most public hospitals though, and luck of the draw as to when you go into labour! The postnatal ward was insanely busy (I got the last bed) - and the buzzers going off all the time drove me crazy. The food was probably bad but after 36 hours in labour I was so hungry I enjoyed it! I was unlucky enough to have the roommate from hell, so opted to go home after just one night and have midwife support at home for 4 days which I cannot praise highly enough.
