Do you have a digital camera? If so you have the opportunity to make a little extra cash…. And in these tight times, a little extra cash is just what we could all do with.

I use a variety of online photo libraries to buy and licence photographs. I was having a bit of a look around this one particular site… www.istock.com and discovered, they actually pay for the submission of photos and any one and everyone is allowed to submit their works of art.

Essentially every time someone down loads one of your photos, you are paid a commission. Now sure the $1-2 per photo may not seem like much but imagine if you had 50 images registered with the site or 3 lots of 50 photos registered with other photo library sites like; www.gettys.com, www.shutterstock.com, www.photolibrary.com, (need more? google the words, Photo library). The pennies soon add up to dollars.

It’s easy to do and best of all you don’t need to be a professional photographer – with a digital camera in hand you could take a few happy snaps of bubs or the family and have these on the site in minutes ready to earn a little extra cash. You might even have a few holiday snaps that would be suitable to upload.

If you want to get really serious you could search the photos listed on the site and identify the favourites, work out why these images are so popular and try to recreate the look, style or feel of the image in a similar fashion.  Remembering the more popularly your image the more you’re paid, so if pays to put some time in working out which photos sell and those that don’t. Some of the popular images are very simple, such as an object with a white background. With a digital camera you can make as many mistakes as you like, until you get the right pic…..and it hasn’t even cost you any more than a little time.

You will need to become a member of these sites, however this is free.
Happy snapping everyone!
