A while ago I posted about starting a small cake decorating business from home and got some very helpful replies. One more thing I am trying to work out is insurance. For the moment I've settled on just doing cakes for family & friends at cost price (ie no profit) until I can build a portfolio up. Although being just for frineds etc, obviously these cakes will be eaten at parties by other unknown people. So I'm wondering at what point it is appropriate to take out some kind of insurance, such as public liability. I do aim to register the business properly and clear it with council eventually, but I'm just trying to work out what things I need to do now to get it off the ground and cover myself. So for those of you in business, at what point did you take out insurance and what kind? Thanks again in advance for any advice.
