Does anyone have an easy sling pattern? I've got a sewing machine and can do the basics. I'd love to make a sling for when this bub arrives - I dont want anything too bulky. I'm only planning on using it the first few months while bub is still nice and small - I can't see how anyone can carry a chunky toddler in one of those and not be uncomfortable or in pain

A couple of sites I've had booked, have many different sling tutorials, you'd just have to see anythings suits you A few friends have made reversible slings from just two nice long stretchy pieces of material sewn face to face, reinforced, then turned right side out and top stitched They have been great
There are also some great videos on utube - utube ring sling (for ring slings obviuosly (lol))

What sort of sling - a ring sling, a pouch sling or a wrap sling/Hugabub type? I've made em all, plus a few others (MeiTais, Soft Structured Carriers similar to ergo...) If you join up at The Baby Wearer forums they have a DIY section and you will find a wealth of links, patterns, tutes, tips etc.
Personally, I like the ring sling the most out of all those I mentioned as it is adjustable, unlike a pouch. It is simple to adjust and it tends to stay tight and snug, unlike the wrap style sling. A pouch is easy to sew, but you have to be careful to get your measurements right as it is not adjustable. You can buy sling rings online from a number of sellers and if you use cotton drill they are quite cheap to make. I used the Upmama tute.

I like the look of the pouch slings but I'm thinking the ring sling and the adjust-ability of it might be better?
I've never really used slings before so I'm not terribly familiar with them. I've used a baby bjorn a few times with DS and it was a logistical nightmare trying to get his legs and arms into all the right holes whilst strapping yourself into it..
Will go have a look at Baby Wearer soon - thanks!

You can buy sling rings and a sling starter kit from this website -
they also have links to patterns. I've ordered a starter kit, but haven't gotten it yet so can't comment on how easy it is to make etc....
