Boosting your Immunity

Hi there ladies,
From you own personal experience, what would you say would be the best method to boost your immunity? I'm aware that nothing can replace a good diet, plenty of water & exercise but there are times when this is just not possible.
So any natural supplements; echinacea, garlic, inner health acidophilus powder etc. I've talked to one mum who mentioned that if the gut is not working correctly, there is more chance that your immunity will be compromised. Is this correct?
Also, any herbals for kids to take during the winter months. I definitely don't want to give them a flu vax or swine flu vax at this stage.
