Okay so I figured this was kind of a physics question

I have my first public pole dancing performance coming up and I am doing my routine on a spinning pole. Now I know when you lean out it slows the spin and when you lean in it quickens the spin. However when I do a move out from the pole the spin slows down and by the time I come back in close the pole has slowed down so much that I barely spin or don't spin at all.

Is there any way to keep the momentum going when I am leaning away from the pole? Should I be leaning a bit or is there some other way you can think of without me having to go down to the ground and launch myself again?

It's a competition and I don't want to suck!

An anti-gravity chamber may help.

Unfortunately friction is your killer.  Can you wear a slinkier costume to reduce friction?

The only other thing I could suggest is that you don't lean out for as long - the longer you lean out the less energy you've got overall in your 'system' (where system = you spinning around the pole).

Or, is there any way you can increase the spin before you lean out.  Make sure your energy is horizontal - not vertical.  For example if you jump up from the ground to push yourself around into a spin - the more you jump vertically the less energy there is in the spin.  So you need to perfect your initial jump to ensure as much energy as possible goes into the horizontal component (=the speed at which you spin around the pole).

Does this make sense?  I may need to get out some figures

Thanks mesaana I can't do much about the costume unfortunately because I am dressing as a certain character. It's just a short skirt and a sleeveless shirt though.

I may be able to do something about the horizontal lift by extending a leg and whipping it round when I initially get onto the pole for one of my lifts. The thing is I start off quite fast but after a few moves up on the pole I start to slow until I am pretty much motionless

Does leaning into the direction I am spinning help at all?

LOL Jip I want to go faster, I don't want to go so fast I fly off the the pole and kill myself!

When coming back in close to the pole after leaning out, can you incorporate a large arm gesture?
(This is going to be hard to explain... lol)
So, if right before you're going to come back in close, you actually reach out further and then snap in quickly, while almost swinging yourself around in the direction that the pole is already spinning, it should/may make the spin a little more intense.
Works in theory in my head anyway... LOL
