My stacker rings have been created by accident, more or less, only because I like quite simple jewellry ... which tends to stack.
I usually have my art deco engagement ring (cluster) on my right hand (it's a very old ring edged in filigree so I can't wear another ring with it [or shouldn't
]). On my left ring finger I have my wedding ring (plain gold rounded band), wide gold tiffany ring (see link below) and my grandmothers wedding ring (flat rose gold band with engraving). I also used to wear another plain gold band which was quite wide until I lost it one NYE
. They're all different sizes and come to about 2cm all together (used to be about 3cm with the old gold band).
I now have tiffany and grandmothers wedding ring on right hand and engagement/wedding on left as the engagement won't go back to the right since my baby was born. I'm getting it resized this week so I can go back to stacking.
My husband has started making noises about buying me something to add to the stack. I would love something like this (not necessarily Tiff as I think they're overpriced). http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?...n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+
Also currently hassling my mother to "hand down" this ring of hers to me so I can add it to the stack...and then i'll be done http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?...n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+
So, to answer your question. I would think the easiest way to start a collection is to decide on a colour (platinum/gold/rose) and buy rings with flat edges so it is then easy to mix and match, as well as rearrange them as your mood suits.http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?...n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+
