5 month old not interested in rolling

My DD is 5 months old and does not seem interested in rolling- she has rolled stomach to back but not the other way and has only rolled a few times in total.
She has plenty of tummy time and floor time. I have toys placed at rolling distance and give her the opportunity to get them but she makes no moves to roll.
She sits really well and is meeting all milestones other than this one. She has great head control, able to bear weight on legs and pushes up well when on her stomach.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and if there is anything I should be doing? I am not worried as I know she will get there when she is ready but I am wondering if there is anything else I should be doing.
Thanks in advance for any help

My son didn't roll until he was walking at 12 mo ! It just didn't seem to occur to him that he could get off his back, very handy for when I had to take my eyes off him for a second and didn't want him crawling over and getting into things (I'd just pick him up, put him back down on his back and go about my business!). Mum used to call him "the turtle" hehe.
A few friends commented I should be worried, but my GP wasn't concerned because he was obviously strong, and meeting all of his other milestones.

DS3 is 5 months next week and hasn't rolled once, either way. I am not concerned as he is very strong, is doing everything else he is supposed to do.
I had a look at my older 2 baby's books and interestingly DS2 didn't roll either, I know this because I wrote next to the rolling milestone "did not roll".
I think you are doing all the right things nothing to worry about.

My DD is 5mo and although she has rolled, once only, both ways a couple of months ago, she isn't interested right now. She's too busy teaching herself to pass things from one hand to the other, forming new sounds with her mouth and tongue and being cheeky!
They get around to it eventually. They have so much to learn at the moment and all babies will have different priorities as to what they want to concentrate on.
Personally, I am not worried about DD at all!

DD1 (now 9) rolled once when she was about 6 months old and that was it, DD2 (now almost 5) never rolled! They both had enough tummy time and we tried helping them roll over but they just weren't interested.
I wasn't worried as they were fine with every other milestone. I think DD2's reason for not rolling was because her tummy was so huge

DS barely rolled until 6 months. Between 6 and 7 months he started sitting unassisted, rolling all ways and commando crawling.
Then he commando crawled until around 11 months when he started 4-point crawling.
Walked at 16 months. By 20 months he was literally climbing trees, balancing like a champ, and jumping on soft surfaces.
His talking was slow (but meeting milestones), and he has had a spurt in the last 2 months where he is now talking in sentences in 2 languages. He's one for doing nothing, then having a spurt of development. So be it.

DD didn't roll until she was 6 or 7 months old. A PP that mentioned they have so much to learn and will concentrate on different things at different times is spot on. They're all little individuals, and will do things in their own time.

I don't think babies have all read the textbooks as to what order they are meant to do things in ;-) eg DS is a strong little guy and rolled both ways by 3.5 months, 4 pt crawling at 6.5 months, can pull himself up to standing on the side of his cot at just under 7months (yesterday), BUT still has no interest in sitting unassisted. Probably could if he tried but has just decided he is not interested.
As long as your baby is strong, has good head control, muscle tone and meeting other milestones I wouldn't be concerned in the slightest. He may skip that step all together

My son didn't roll or anything until 7.5 months. We'd just been out for dinner with mothers group and I had mentioned he hadn't. We got home and I put him down to get his things ready and he made a liar of me.
We'd always just put him on his tummy. Put his toys out of his reach. Put something musical to one side to get his attention.
He was walking by 10 months so not rolling now is no indication of his future milestones.

Quick update- yesterday she decided that today was the day and everytime I out her on her back she promptly rolled to her front. She is still to master rolling back but she is having lots of fun with her new skill and being able to grab toys that used to be out of her reach.

DD worried me about her lack of rolling too...in the end she finally did it at 8 months - after she had learnt to crawl! Now at 19 months you can't stop her from running all over the place....

Great to hear she decided to give it a go!
Just wanted to add my 13 month old DD has only ever managed a few rolls in her life. She's still like a beetle trapped on her back most of the time, and any rolling she has done had been a fluke I think! But she can do everything else, including walk now, so I don't worry anymore.

My dd only started to roll at 12mths & she only started getting interested in giving walking a go at 17mths. Don't get too hung up on milestones, they just give you a headache! Especially with the mums that are just so eager to tell you how early their little Johnny's & Mary's achieved theirs.

DS is 5 months this week and rolled front to back once about a month ago and never again since!
I'm not worried though he's got good head control and is a happy
Smiley enough little man
And I need more time to childproof my house anyway!

Iwas about to post the same question until I stumbled across this, My LO hasn't rolled over either and hasn't really been interested much either, she does roll to her side but she is a little chub and can't quite get those hips over ;-). Glad I came across this post :-)

My DS rolled first time just after 6mths at the beach.. then it was like, okay done that , dont need to do it anymore...
he is a typical boy..late to do everything, esp gross motor skills but was really advanced in fine motor skills remember its a range, and a big one at that.....each in their own time...

Don't worry too much about the 'timeline' for milestones. With baby number 2 I have found I am not focused on when they do something new, just that they actually do most of the things they are supposed to. It helps that I have no other women to compare with, as I am the first in my mothers group to have baby 2.
I can remember being so worried when the other babies my DD1 age were doing things my DD wasn't, but it was just peer 'competition', now I am too busy to worry.
BTW my DD2 is almost 8 months old, she can roll, commando crawl, bear weight, but will not sit. Even when I try to place her in a sit, she just wants to be standing

busymumof1&1/2~Too funny and so cute just wanting to stand, we have been saying DD5 will walk before she crawls because she just wants to stand all the time too.. It's nice to hear there is no 'set' time or age for them to do everything, I guess they just do it when they feel it is right for them.. :-)

My little man was the same and it's perfectly fine. they do it in their own time. My guy is 11 months and has just started commando crawling, no real crawling yet. As long as they are happy and healthy - enjoy them not moving around!

My 5.5 m son is a very strong baby, supported his weight on forearms when on tummy from 7 weeks.
He started rolling from 3.5 months - but only from back to tummy. He has not yet rolled from tummy to back, which is supposed to be the usual way to start rolling! And he only rolls in one direction...Puzzles me!
It is funny how in mothers group, all babies start the same but as time progresses, everyone is so different!
I think things like that should be mentioned to health professionals at regular check ups, but I hardly think it is something to worry about.

My niece is over 2 years old. She can walk, run, chat but has only ever been able to roll in one direction. If she is on her back she always rolls to the same side. My sister isn't worried, she is easily meeting all other milestones.
