Hi guys. I will go the doc next week.
Meanwhile 2 days ago I just blew up like a balloon. My legs worst of all, though I could feel the pressure of fluid throughout my body. The only time I have had this is late in pregnancy, my ankles would swell. But this is much worse. I am running around more lately as mum is sick. But nothing else has changed. Im racking my mind trying to figure out why its happening. My mum has heart failure and she blows up when her heart is bad. But I don't have it that I know of, and no other symptoms except for mundo fluid build up. Could it seriously be from just walking around more and driving back and forth to the hospital? Its affecting my old injuries, my old broken kneecap and my sciatica and back problems are all playing up because of the excess fluid in my body. Argh! WHY? |

Are you on any medications? Any major changes to your diet? Are you urinating normally? What colour is your urine? Do you have a cough? Is your skin colour normal? Any swollen lymph nodes? If you press a finger into the swelling in your lower legs, does it Lear a dent?
There are many possible causes of oedema, but body-wide oedema would not normally be caused by being on your feet a lot. Some causes are not very serious, but definitely get yourself checked out to be sure, especially given your family history. |

If you press a finger into the swelling in your lower legs, does it Lear a dent? Meds = desvenlafaxine (pristiq) and mirtazapine (avanza) (both anti depressants). Changes to diet yes one thing, for 2 days prior to this, I got a choc milkshake for maccas. Doesn't sound like a big deal but I don't ususally drink milk like that and I felt pretty full and sluggish afterwards. No cough but a bit of shortness of breath on exertion that I put down to the fluid. Skin colour is normal except in my legs where its very pale and translucent becuase of the fluid. Yes to the denting. though not now, this was last night (I pinched one of my mums frusemide in desperation because my kneecap, damaged from a break years ago, wasn't supporting my leg any more due to the fluid making it float away from position. Did a few pees through the night thanks to the frusemide, and I am still swollen today but its managable and I can walk. I am on my feet a lot more right now. |

Those meds aren't known for fluid retention, so unless you haven't recently started taking them they're unlikely to be the cause.
If the oedema is mainly evident in your lower legs, you may have inflamed veins from being on your feet so much recently (thrombophlebitis), but if it is also evident in your arms and face, it's more likely to be the result of cardiac, kidney or liver problems. If you are Pre-menopausal, it may just be idiopathic oedema, which is pretty much oedema with no disease-basis. This one often comes with oedema around the eyes in the morning. Fingers crossed your doctor gives you a very thorough check up and is able to make you feel more comfortable quickly. In the meantime though, try to keep your feet elevated above heart level as much as possible, try compression stockings, watch salt in your diet, and dandelion root tea can be really effective as a diuretic (but look into this if you have allergies etc). |

If you are Pre-menopausal, it may just be idiopathic oedema, which is pretty much oedema with no disease-basis Yea it is in my face and arms etc too. It could be hormonal though. Im not premenopausal that I know of (33 yrs old, mum and sis started with hot flushes and itchy skin etc in their early 40s). However my hormones are not well behaved at all (endometriosis and other related conditions) and I have a mirena device too. I will definitely look in to dandilion root tea (and someone else suggested celery tablets or something). I took another frusemide last night, again, desperate times desperate measures. This time it was due to my lung capacity being significantly impared by the fluid (I think) and funnily enough I had a cough. It worked, fluid is much reduced today and I can walk around freely and breath. My bra and jeans fit me again LOL and I don't look so fat in the face. Will get my feet up more often, as the opportunity arises :/ Mum has heart conditions, kidney conditions, liver conditions so I am a bit worried but it just means I will make sure to get it all checked out properly. Thank you for your help xxxx |
