I've found Ikea a little hit and miss in the past. I have some Ikea items that are brilliant and still like new after 8 years of daily use, but then I had a dinning table and buffet unit that were terrible quality and i got rid of in under 3 years.

So I'm cautious to consider the Hemnes Chest of drawers but I've had trouble finding many options anywhere else that I like and doesnt cost over $1000.

It's for the babies room, so those drawers will be tugged on by a toddler, preschooler and child. For those that own these drawers do you think they'll do the job?

ETA- Hemnes look like it's a lemon, what about MALM drawers?

I have the Hemnes tall boy in DS's room. We bought it before he was born. No problems thus far, and a great size.

My friend has those exact draws and Im pretty sure she is happy with it and she has a 3 year old. It seems to be holding up. She has some beautiful (exy) furniture and a few inexpensive pieces and I dont think you can tell this particular piece is ikea.
Im looking at the bookcase for DS in this range…its on sale at the moment.

We have one in our room - the bottoms of the drawers aren't very sturdy if you overpack it but that's fair enough.

My main issue is that the end that got sun has cracked and the paint has peeled off. So I wouldn't put it somewhere it will get any direct sun on it! (It's two years old).

I would put them in the "miss" category!!

We have 2 sets of tall boys, in kids rooms. The bottoms of the drawers are flimsy and fall out, not just in the "winter clothes" drawers but in all of them! The fronts have come off due to the screws loosening over time (I periodically re-tighten them now, they are those lock in type things Ikea uses) and the paint finish flakes off around the edges.

DH is always swearing about them when the kids come and ask him to fix their drawers AGAIN!! My dad even put some corner brackets on the drawers to stop them coming apart and the bottoms dropping out if the screws loosened but that hasn't worked. Some of the bottoms have broken where they fall through the teeny brackets at the sides. We have turned them upside down so the load is in a different place but they still pop apart.

I wouldn't buy them again!! Unfortunately we don't have the budget to replace them right now but they would probably be ok for you as a baby's drawers as you won't have anything too heavy in them.

Two of my girls have one in their room. They are not little kids, but pre-teens. They have had the drawers about 3 years I think. They are completely destroyed and falling apart. I'm looking at getting rid of it now. Just waiting for the next council pick up. I don't know, perhaps my girls are very rough, but it didn't last well for us.

We have these in our bedroom. We chose the dark brown color and to be completely honest with you I would not get them again. They wood is 'soft' as in it chips REALLY easily, and we are by no means rough with our furniture. The bases of the drawers are not that strong either.

We have lots of other Ikea furniture and really havent had any problems with the rest of it.

I have had problems with the bottoms of the drawers falling out. I ended up pulling it apart and gluing it as I reassembled. If you get it I would highly recommend using some PVA down the seams.
Other than that, no problems with the finish, knobs, tracks etc.
