I've never had an algae issue previously in my tank but I did a 85% water change so I could move the tank.

I have an AquaStyle 510 tank. Filter Inserts were replaced 2 weeks ago. I use Seachem Stability and Prime.

I have two fish (Oscar's).

Now I have algae, not terrible but its noticeable where it was not at all visible for the 8 months I've had them.

Is there anything I could do? I would love to get an algae eating fish but my oscars would eat it.....

You might be over feeding???

BTW - Did you move the tank to/near a window?

Plecos happily live with oscars as long as you get one big enough to not fit in its mouth. We never have an algae problem in our two tanks due to the plecos we own. We also have a surly Oscar as well and the Pleco is known to actually chase the Oscar!

A decent size Pleco will cost over a hundred dollars so what we do is get a small nursery tank that we raise are smaller fish so that they will be a decent size and not prey for the oscars. You can get a baby Pleco for about 30-40 dollars and they will be an un eatable size within 6 months, less if you feed them heaps

Plecos are also amazing fish to watch and very handsome in a prehistoric way. Real dinosaurs of the fish world.

Do you leave the lights on 24/7? Excessive light can cause algae original.gif

Get yourself a slime eating snail or two!

I had (many years ago when I was a lazy teen) a slime eating snail and a poo eating catfish, between them they kept everything spick and span and I rarely ever changed the water nor needed to clean the bowl!

And Augustus (my fish) lived his long life in luxury!

Thanks!

I did move it hear a window! I only turn the tank light on if we have visitors and they want to see the bright colors or for an hour or so at night.

I might call the fish store and ask about Pleco's. Thanks original.gif

I don't think its over feeding as I haven't changed how much I feed them in the last 3 months.

Can you have snails with oscars?

If it is really close to a window, and the algae started after moving the tank there ... I think that may be your prob.
