We are going to the Cook Islands in a couple of weeks for BIL's wedding, and looking through the travel info they suggest you bring with you as much food as you can as all food there is imported from NZ (other than fruit & veg) and very expensive as a result.

So far on my list I have

Baby food for DS
A few easy mac or something for DD
big box weetbix
crackers
biscuits
a few alfredo pasta type things
tins tuna
cheese sticks
long life milk

can anyone else think of anything else we should take? we are allowed to take in anything other than fruit and veg, and we will be there for 2 weeks on a tight budget

Snack foods. That's what we finds tends to add up when we are away. Things that we wouldn't normally have tiny teddies, shapes. Rice crakers muslie bars (yes eb I am one of those bad mothers that buys junk for holidays) smoothie packets from the baby section.

I've been to the Cooks and the food isn't that pricey. It's more than you pay at home but it's not much more. Remember it is all in NZ dollars so the exchange rate helps. Fruit and vege is dirt cheap if you get stuff grown on the islands, it's only European style things that really cost a lot.

I'm curious where you got that info, it's completely different from everything I've seen about the Cooks!

Will you have access to a stove/oven? You could take basic stuff like flour, sugar, etc and then you'd be able to make things like pancakes for breakfast (or even lunch lol) or a batch of cookies, etc.
I'd probably also take things like baked beans, dried pasta and a couple of jars of sauce, tinned fruit/vege, umm...plenty of things that are easy to grab and eat too, muesli bars, shapes, etc...

Rice, pasta. Gives you the option to make a couple dinners, as I don't see them listed. Rice (regular, cheap rice, not minute rice in packets) is very easy to make in just a microwave.

Tinned chicken breast. Good for sandwiches at lunch and good in rice/pasta for dinner. Augment with local veggies to taste. Tuna works for this too though and you have it on your list already.

I like tinned sardines on toast but I might be alone in that.

How much baggage are you allowed? Will the cost of excess luggage be greater than the savings on buying food over there? I'd take stuff that I couldn't be sure about finding over there eg. Baby food if baby is fussy but otherwise just go with whatever is available.

You won't want to be carrying too much heavy stuff.

How about:
a packet of powdered milk instead of long life milk
packs of pasta & sauce - they are dehydrated so very light
big box of muesli bars
