Does this effectively hide my thunder?
My little guy likes a lot of the ones metioned...

Who sank the boat is a particular favourite as well as Ten Little fingers and Green sheep.

He also likes Cat and Fish (by Joan Grant) - which has lovely black and white picutres and Dinosaur Roar.

DD loves:
Any of the Hairy Maclairy books.
The Gruffalo and The Whale and the Snail (these are also fun to read) by Julia Donaldson
Where's the Green Sheep by Mem Fox

She also loves any books with pictures of babies doing things, eg wearing a hat, eating dinner. Just be careful as I've had to put away one book for now where a baby gets a bottle as we're still trying to get our little bottle addict off them.

We read Time for Bed by Mem Fox every night - DD loves it and often reads it by herself during the day as well. Lots of animals.

My DD is 19 months and I've recently started a blog about the books she likes the best, if you're interested send me a pm and I'll give you details. Given what you've said, "Ten Little Ladybugs" by Melanie Gerth would probably be a winner.

Some great suggestions there, and so many books I had forgotten about - off to find "My Cat likes to Hide in Boxes" tomorrow for DD. I LOVE that book.

20mth old DD loves
Dr Seuss' ABC
Incy Wincy and Twinkle Twinkle (Kate Toms - very cute stories)
Green Sheep
Hungry Caterpillar
Hairy MacLeary
She also still likes the basic board books with pictures and proudly identifies each object.

As well as all of the majority of those mentioned, we love the following:

  • Peepo! by Janet & Alan Ahlberg (My girls have both always loved tis. It has little holes on every second page, looking through to the next page.)
  • Possum in the House by Kiersten Jensen
  • Possum goes to School by Melanie Carter
  • The Magic Hat by Mem Fox
  • Just about any of the Charles Fuge books, including Found you, little Wombat and especially Sometimes I like to curl up in a ball.
  • Any Hairy Maclary Books
  • The Nickle Nackle Tree by Linley Dodd

Hairy Mclary - even DS knows to make the load meow sound as soon as scarface claw pop up!

Spot is a hit here too.

Did you say it was a boy? We've got a series of board books published by brimax (can't find the author) that include the big blue truck and the noisy green train. DS loves his trucks and all the references to dirt and car noises!

DS is also starting to say words. He quite likes the basic books that have a picture or photo of the object, and then he can say the word. He's got one with pictures of toys, and he also has a set my magabala books called Aussie Babies/toddlers/two's can. The toddler one has pictures of toddlers eating, drinking, crawling, drumming etc and he really likes to say each word. Plus it finishes with a mirror for him to look at himself.
