I cannot take AD's, I had a reaction last time I took them, they made my lips itchy and my mouth swell up sad.gif

My GP initally gave me a well known one, and said that they all contain one common ingredient and I would probably react the same to them all.

Does anyone know of any alternatives?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It's slightly more expensive than ADs though.

I would try traditional Chinese medicine, I found it worked for mild depression.

LOL! I have pregnancy brain so this is all from Dr Google. I said that it is more expensive than ADs because, well, how much does a script cost compared to seeing a psychologist?

I'm sure that not everyone will agree with me, but I think of ADs as a short term solution whereas CBT can have long term impact/benefits.

QUOTE
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) describes a number of therapies that all have a similar approach to solving problems, which can range from sleeping difficulties or relationship problems, to drug and alcohol abuse or anxiety and depression. CBT works by changing people's attitudes and their behaviour. The therapies focus on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that we hold (our cognitive processes) and how this relates to the way we behave, as a way of dealing with emotional problems.

There is a natural/alternative medicine called Chromium which can only be prescribed by a qualified Naturopath which is supposed to be an extremely effective AD. I think it's a little more expensive than traditional AD's, but not a whole lot and probably worth a try.

Cherish - you can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Chinese_medicine

And find a local practitioner here:
http://www.acupuncture.com.au/practitioner/search.html

I was taking something for fertility but my TCM practitioner picked up in the consultation (without me saying) that I had mild depression so added something for that to the mix and I felt fantastic. I also lost 2kg and then fell pregnant all within a month - very happy.

Studies have shown that moderate, regular exercise can be just as effective as anti-depressants in treating mild-moderate depression. Fish oil capsules (high in the Omega oils) are apparently helpful too.
