DS is 7 months old, and is having solids for main meals, with a formula bottle at morning tea, arvo tea and before bed. I've been trying to get him to drink water, juice, ANYTHING, but he flat out refuses. For a couple of weeks he was happily drinking watered down juice, but now he wont even drink that. I've tried both from a bottle and a sippy cup and nothing. I'm worried that he might get dehydrated. Any suggestions would be great.

Had a similar problem with my daughter, even now she doesn't seem to drink much. But there are fluids in foods such as fruit, custard, yoghurt, jelly so maybe you could try those (not sure what sort of solids you are giving). My daughter was breastfed so I am not sure about bottles- do you need more than 3 a day? Also check there are several wet nappies and baby's skin tone is good.

He may not be very thirsty since he's still having 4 bottles a day. Just keep offering water (preferable to juice, etc as developing a taste for flavoured drink may put him off ever liking water) in case he one day decides to drink it. My DD didn't get into drinking water until summer time when suddenly she couldn't get enough of it. Now it's winter she is drinking a lot less. As long as your DS is drinking formula and eating high water content foods (like fruit and veges - especially pureed) then you shouldn't have to worry about him dehydrating. If his poo starts becoming hard and pellet-like then you know he needs more fluids.
Good luck. Jenni Me 34 DP 31 DD 06/03/04 m/c 03/05 ![]() http://www2.fertilityfriend.com/home/83ec1 |

Thanks for that guys. I think I've worked out the trick, give him some water BEFORE I give him his meal. He only has about 20 sucks, but at least its SOMETHING! lol. I'll keep offering him a drink after his meals too. He has pleanty of wet nappies, so there doesn't seem to be any problems - yet!
