I know it's petty but I refuse to roll around in a car named a Spanish obscenity. I giggle like a child each time I see a Pajero and owning one would just be too much.

My DH works with 4WDs every single day.
He said as long as it is a new one 2008-current, 3.2L Diesel, with good equipment levels, they are a great car. Comfy, plenty of space, good to drive and Mitsubishi obviously believe in them - with a 5 year warranty.

ETA - talking about the pajero above.

We have a Prado with 7 seats, its also a really great reliable car. I have sat in the very very back before and it is squishy, but would probably be ok for a child (out of a car seat), but the seats do take up the boot, so would not be good if you had to fit in prams, nappy bags, etc etc etc

I'd go the Pajjy, the cruisers are just too huge! We had a 2001 Mitsubishi Challenger for a few years (we didn't need the 7 seats the Pajero had) and had a few issues with it. We also have a friend with a Triton who had issues, so don't know if the Pajjys have issues as well though.

Hmm, if it's any help most of the people around Ipswich who the Spanish obscenity La Di Dah refers to describes all seem to be driving Toyotas these days. Not that I would have known what one she was referring to if my husband hadn't worked with an American with the same hang up about Pajero's.

Both are decent cars, the Mitsubishi engines are good, reliable little workhorses and my husband has very fond memories of the Toyota he used to own.

I think it really comes down to brand snobbery. And which has the better ANCAP rating for the models you are looking at.

We have the Mitsubishi Challenger 2009 model. No issues at all. It is diesel and is great on the open road. I have actually been surprised how economical it is with city driving ( we moved here in Jan for DH work). We have the 5 seater and can fit an electric wheelchair in the back for DD. it comes as a 7 seater but of course you lose a fair amount of boot space with the last row of seats. We also have roof racks and fit a pod if we need extra storage when traveling.

We had no issues with flood waters when we first got the car. Not sure how it compares with the others in terms of clearance.

It is also cheaper then the others. Comes with the mitsubishi 5 year warranty and 10 yrs on the drive train and fixed price servicing.

I highly recommend it.

The Pajero is exactly the same - great boot space until you put those extra 2 seats up in the back and then there's not much at all.

We have a 2009 model turbo diesel Pajero and I love love love it! Before that we also had a Pajero (not sure of the year, think it was about 98 or 99) and loved it too. Never had a problem with either of them (touch wood). It's quite fuel efficient too, doesnt use much more than my Holden sedan
