Some time around November last year, I rather optimistically purchased a jar of fruit mince so I could make my own low-effort fruit mince pies at Christmas. Said jar is still sitting in my pantry taking up space. I want it gone! So, what can I do with fruit mince that isn't pies/Christmassy? I'm considering experimenting with putting it in a fruit cake, but any other ideas would be gratefully received.

Mix some of it with apple to make a strudel instead of using sultanas.

Put some in a batch of muffins and see what that tastes like.P

Put a couple of blobs in a bowl with a shortbread biscuit and serve it with custard- deconstructed desserts are all the rage at the moment.

Eat it out of the jar with a spoon when you can't be bothered making dinner. laughing2.gif

Use it as filling in baked apples.

Mix with apple or pears for a truly decadent apple crumble.

There are countless baked slice recipes that would go well with / require fruit mince.

Grab some sweet short crust pastry and make some 'fruity rolls' (just mix some cocoanut dried apricots with the fruit mince and proceed as for sausage rolls)

Shhesh.... now I wish I had some in the cupboard!

Try this recipe but sub the jam & raisins for mince. I made it last week and it was delicious but the jam and raisins were too much and it would be fabulous with mince in place.

Fabulous, just the sort of ideas I was looking for. Baked apples with custard for dessert tonight methinks! Might try the shortcake next week, sounds good but I made crostata last night and it's a bit too similar.

Thanks recipe-denizens, I knew you'd come through. original.gif
