DS has just hit 11 months and while not nearly as bad his sleeping has also regressed. Could it be a developmental thing? Or perhaps teeth, but I can't see any new ones here.

thank you for your replies. MamaTwo and Sallybat, I had been considering both of your suggestions! I think I will gear myself up to try Sallybats first and then if it doesnt work, I will set the mattress up on the floor.

I know its not my fault she doesn't sleep but it makes me question everything I have done and wonder if I have encouraged bad habits. Very demoralising!

My DD is about to hit 11 months & is doing the exact same thing MissM86!!

She's would have good 4-5 hour stretch at the beginning of the night & would then wake up subsequently every 1-2 hrs after 1am! Very frustrating!

We ended up taking her to our bed around 4/5am which I resented in the beginning, but DH is beyond p*ssed by this time usually & believes this is the only way any of us would get any sleep...

Funnily enough she would sleep a total of 4 hours from 2 naps during the day- seemingly to make up for the nightly wakings, but I can't be sure of that either... my mom & MIL who looks after her on weekdays just thinks she's such an angel when she sleeps like that during the day...

I do wonder if this is a developmental thing? Can't see any molars though & she's been cruising furniture for ages now, so I am also at my wits end.
I too question everything I have done so far and wonder if I have encouraged bad habits! I know my mom, DH & MIL rocked her to sleep during the day and night time so that makes it even worse!

Sorry - not very helpful I know, but I thought I'd share too sad.gif

DD was like this starting at 8 months we discovered at 12 months it was a gluten intolerance and a couple of months later also dairy. You mentioned she's getting treated for intolerance, could there be something else she isn't tolerating that may not have been considered? It wasn't until we saw her allergist at RCH the dairy was picked up.
I think when they face these issues it regresses their sleep and they just don't learn how to sleep or self settle like regular babies do and as they get older they get worse. Could this or further intolerances relate to your situation?
We think DD associated her tummy pain with being in the cot, we took the side off and use a bedrail and she loves her bed now. We are gradually getting her use to falling asleep in it by me lying next to her in it and DH sitting next to it. We've found the falling asleep in her bed has helped the overnight sleeping too. She cosleeps with us from the first wake since she was 8 months and the last 5 out of 8 nights she has slept through on her own! I think it's a combination of having her diet under control and time, she's getting older and finally getting better at this sleeping thing.

Just an update for anyone who is interested/in the same boat. I have changed a few things this week and slowly seen improvement. Her daytime nap is now at 10am rather than later in the day and she sleeps for between 1 - 2 hours. I have started settling her IN the cot for this, not in my arms.

I also settle her IN the cot at bedtime at night, rather than in my arms. Last two nights she slept until 3-4am then woke and I have not rushed in but rather gotten up, gone to the toilet and then gone in to her and brought her into our bed rather than instantly rushing in. This way, she has slowly started waking a bit later each time. I tried resettling her in the cot the first night but this went on for about two hours before I caved and brought her into bed.

I think the main thing has been that I have re-introduced an extra bottle or two during the day. I think a lot of this was hunger/thirst related and I was trying to 'follow the book' and cut down her bottles as she approached one year old.

As with all things baby sleep related, I know this will all change again but for now, I am glad to see some improvement and the longer stretches are starting to happen again.
