I just asked DH and apparently I looked attractive today and not wifely at all, so that was good! I asked what a wife dresses like and he said a velour tracksuit(which might be what I am wearing now, with pajamas and slippers).

Con Sprezzatura.
I dress like what I am - a student on a budget who needs her clothes to be practical and occasionally aspires to notions of style. I imagine there's a fair overlap there with what one might mean by "wifely."

I'm certainly not dressing as if I were trying to pick up....not that I ever really did!

The implication is clearly not a good one as a far as women who are married go.

But what is far worse than a woman dressing like a wife is a man dressing like a husband. Mine has lost all capacity to use his eyeballs when deciding what looks good or bad.

He routinely tries to leave the house wearing plaid shorts with a plaid shirt. He thinks nothing of putting on a blue tshirt with a blue pair of shorts.

The man looks like a scottish smurf. And he just doesn't seem to care.

Depends, are they va-va-vhoom cardis or granny cardis?

I'd say they are probably wifely cardis - provided wives can shop at Saba and Espirit.

Oh, just saw that pink sequinned cardi that Miranda Kerr is wearing. Just gorgeous. I have a gold/champagne lace fitted v-neck cardi from Review which is a similar cut to that one. It definitely isn't wifely.

I think I need to buy that cardigan....

I think many women forget how to be fashionable and get comfortable. Hence the wifey label.

Regardless of whether I have my man now or am trying to attract one, I think it's important to keep my man seeing me as an attractive and vibrant woman, regardless of whether I am a wife or mother.

Getting fat and being 'comfortable' is not good enough.

Too often I see these hot guys out there walking beside fat frumpy women with prams. It truly saddens me. He has made the effort to keep looking good, why shouldn't we as women and wives or partners?

I'm loving this thread - your replies are everything I love about a lot of the women on this site. Fiesty, opinionated and damn unlikely to be tied down to conventional notions of wifedom (or femininity) by someone like Kate Moss.

Escapin - I did not need more links to online shopping, but thanks! I think Miranda Kerr can make any cardi look sexy. wink.gif Gotta love a pink sequin.

Too true Cinnabubble. I see just as many great looking women with slobby blokes!

And I love cardis! Comfy AND cute - what a winning combination. I have heaps! My current fav is very warm, fine, merino, leopard print number. So a little bit rock'n'roll. Plus I'm currently sporting the shortest haircut I've ever had (it's fairly close to a crew cut) and I've had heaps of compliments. Actually, I'm really enjoying being on mat leave and being able to indulge my arty/out there side, rather than my corporate side.

So no 'wifey' problems for me. haha!
