Following on from a thread started by lottiebobs about finding a new BFF, I thought it'd be nice to start a thread here for people in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne (and surrounds) to say hi and introduce yourselves. Perhaps we could even arrange a group meet-up, especially since the weather is beginning to warm up as we're coming into spring soon.

A bit about me: I'm 28, live in Bentleigh with my DH and 10 month old DS. In life pre-DS, DH and I loved to go out for dinner with friends, trivia nights, play boardgames, maybe catch a movie once in a blue moon. Post-DS, we don't have friends with kids, so it's been a bit strange not having people in a similar situation to us to catch-up with.

I have an unhealthy obsession (though I prefer to think of it as an appreciation) with Melissa shoes, which I'm struggling to keep in check given I shouldn't be "wasting" money on things I don't "need". DH is an avid collector of comics - each issue is "boarded and bagged". We play piano and guitar (respectively) and try to play music for DS, but in reality, DS plays more piano and guitar for us, though we think we have a little drummer on our hands...!

Looking forward to "meeting" you soon!

Edited to add link.

Great idea Emily,

I am Jen (previous UN Jen42), I am 37 and live in Richmond, I have a 3yo DS and my DS2 is 1 on Friday!

Prior to DS1 we travelled a lot, drank an awful lot of wine and ate out as often as possible. We are also mad mad sports fans hence our location original.gif

Post DS1 - well, it's been 4 years since that first BFP (give or take) and I've been unable to stomach alcohol since, even the smell of strong alcohol makes me gag. I love reading and currently have about 8 unopened books and am considering which of the booker long lists I will buy. I am hopeless and hoard books like a mad librarian even ones I have more than one copy of.

We have friends with kids but we both work, they all work, kids have other friends, activities and we need to shop and see each other occasionally - so we don't seem to catch up with anyone that often laughing2.gif

I'm always happy to meet new people and expand the friendship group biggrin.gif

Just to get by...
Hello everyone,

I am AKA Renay. I'm almost 30 and live way out in the S/E suburbs, near Kath and Kim cool.gif
Life before DS (who is 4), consisted of pretty much what happens now. Lots of movies, I love sewing (kids clothes, and my own clothes, never attempted a quilt), and like your DH Emily my DH is a comic collector, though I'm not sure if all of his are bagged and boarded lol

My obsession is fabric, I have HEAPS of it, all with a project in mind that I'll get around to one day biggrin.gif

Hi ladies,

I'm Lottiebobs, I am 40 and live in Belgrave South with DH and our 2 kids (DS is 7.5 and DD is 5). I work part time and I'm a full time tree hugger. In what little spare time I have I enjoy running, veggie gardening, taking photos, sewing and cooking. Oh, and I also love books and dancing.

Looking forward to meeting up with some or all of you biggrin.gif

Cool, very different interests, and a spread of locations!

Dinosaurus - I'm afraid I have no clue about sports. DH loves watching cricket, but that's as far as our love of sports goes! And I must admit I'm rubbish at reading - I think the last time I actually finished a book I was still at uni. I once joined a book club, and the book that was going to be discussed was Blindness by Jose Saramago... I read the first sentence that went for 1.5 pages, and decided not to go to the meet - true story!

lottiebobs - what does being a full-time tree hugger involve? Please forgive my ignorance! What kind of dance do you do? I used to do belly dance, but stopped because the school shut down. It was so much fun, I might look into doing it again one day down the track.

A.K.A - I always wanted to sew, but I'm no good at crafts. I did have to make costumes for the performances I was involved in when I did belly dance - took me so long to put them together. That's awesome that you sew your own clothes - I think I'll have to learn to sew properly one day. And what is with the comic collecting, huh?! My DH has a room for his comics!

And thanks for popping by, lucky 2!

Hi everyone waves.gif

I'm in Port Melbourne and 30 something... gosh I had to stop and figure out the "something". Thirty-three, with two boys ages 3yrs and nearly 8 months. The past few years I have had to stop and calculate how old I am. Is this a normal part of hitting your thirties?!? (I digress)

Life before children for me consisted of lots of travel, eating out and activity. I used to think nothing of running 5 or 6km, then jumping on my bike and doing another 30. Perhaps I would have been a decent triathlete except I am more a floater than a swimmer wink.gif Those days are long gone, I can't seem to find any time/personal space for exercise with two bottle-refusing cruddy sleeping babies in the house! Sometimes I do amble up to Bay St and eat cake, does that count? ph34r.gif

dinosaurus Another sports mad fan here ph34r.gif AFL (go Hawks, can't believe what happened Friday argh!), cricket, used to play netball twice a week and tennis twice a week pre babies too. Two sports I have never managed to get in to: soccer and golf ssleep.gif I love reading too, but have ditched my bookshelf in favour of a Kindle!

emily DS1 is in to music as well, especially Michael Jackson. "It has a good beat Mummy", he says. He dances around the loungeroom and "moonwalks" which consists of walking backwards. Hilarious.

A.K.A and lottiebobs I have the utmost admiration for people who can sew or who are artistic and crafty. I seem to have missed that gene. High school Home Ec Sewing was mostly spent cursing over the unpicker and I won't even mention my efforts in art class. Suffice to say, I still draw trees much like a four year old wink.gif

lucky2 Nice to see you popping in! original.gif

That's all for an introductory post from me. Must go and do a quick express before DS2 wakes up (I donate my breast milk) and get him ready for swimming. DS1 is in childcare Monday and Tuesday holding his place for when I return to work, so the bonus is I actually get to give the little guy some one-on-one attention for a change!

Nice to "meet" you all biggrin.gif

Hello Melbournians!

So I sit here wanting to say HI because I don't have any friends with kids and would dearly love to make some, but if I put my stats up I will be outing myself to anybody who reads this and recognises me...I really loved the anonymity of EB!

But I guess it's time so here goes!

I'm 29 in Oakleigh with one DD 18 months.

I too love music and board games. My DH is a geek too original.gif

I also enjoy: traveling, wine, cheese, politics, food and I have my crafty moments. The closest I get to sport is that I enjoy watching the world cup. I read a lot but mostly non-fiction at the moment, currently reading Buddhism for Mothers and finding it fascinating.

All my hippie friends think I'm too straight, and all my straight friends think I'm too hippie. It leaves me in quite a bind!

I work full time which makes meeting other mums hard I guess.

Peace out, Tess

Peace out, Tess

Yes, I have this problem too - although these days I'm much 'straighter' than I used to be (communism has lost it's allure now I own stuff laughing2.gif)

I'm not too worried about anonimity, there are so many people on here that know me IRL that I just try not to be too personal (anymore) and hope they all have lives and don't stalk all my posts like I can't be a*sed stalking all theirs original.gif

I am also the mother who will be first to suggest meeting without the kids ph34r.gif but in my defence I have a VERY active 3yo who also has the attention span of a fly so even taking him places he wants to go is fraught with danger (I am yet to leash him but it's very tempting!) Alas my DS2 is showing all signs of following this -ahem - independent behaviour biggrin.gif

Deejie - Looking forward to catching up, sounds like we have a lot in common, although I'm not sure about the Hawks! I am a Melbourne member and Bombers supporter - no I can't explain it, I'm hoping that Melbourne folds soon enough and I can drag the family all over to the Bombers.

In other very unrelated news I have a new tablet for work and today is the first time I've had the PC on in over a week. And I keep touching the damn screen to try and make it move!! That tells you all you need to know about my brain's hopeless wiring laughing2.gif

Lucky2 - I'm not from Melbourne so have no east side/west side issues - you can come meet and greet as far as I'm concerned biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif I'm not sure I'm ready to come out of the closet (there are many different types of closets!). Thank you for the offer original.gif .
