How would you decorate if you were going to have your own place with your kids?

This is the first time that I will be buying a place with just me and my two kids, I don't need to worry about any male influenced bogan style Jim Beam picture frames and other car racing/alcohol inspired paraphanalia biggrin.gif

Do you have a style that you like? Where do you go for inspiration?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Pinterest, apartment therapy. Not that I have done the actual decorating! I like a mix of mid-20th century and contemporary styles, clean lines, not too much clutter or purposeless decorative items.

Oh and congrats on buying a new place on your own - must feel good! I hope to do the same in a few years.

Style? What is style? It constantly looks like cheap colourful plastic toys have exploded everywhere. LOL

Pinterest as above but after awhile it gets to me. It makes me feel inadequate about my house. original.gif
I have been reading lots of interior blogs. DIY interiors, DIY wall art original.gif

Thanks aratiaw!

I haven't bought the place yet but am close to putting an offer in....can't wait to be able to do what I like and not worry about not being able to put a tiny hole in a wall for a picture etc.

I agree pinterest is great for inspiration and putting your ideas together.

I like subtle colour and neutrals, and furniture that is nice and old furniture that has been given a face lift. Currently our house lacks style.

Lego 'carpet' is a style isn't it? I am also a fan of a Sodor Island coffee table.

My decorating style tends to turn on the question

Cobwebs are the new black!
My style is crazy fun I guess.

The boys have a giant pirate ship I painted on one wall and is done in blues and greens.

Ashley's room is pink and green and her wardrobe is collaged in complimenting colours and patterns.

Our main rooms are in the process of being Alice in Wonderland-ified. My brick wall has highlighted bricks with quotes from the book on them, my walls have giant mushrooms.

(just blocking it out= not the finished product)

Originally I was going to go for showroom type house but it's just really not us biggrin.gif

Wow Xena, I love the pirate wall and pink stove!!

I love a comfortable, ecclectic home with lots of photos and interesting bits and pieces.
NO CLUTTER is a must if there is such a thing with 2 boys!!

Mine. Hmm. Contemporary, clean lines, neutral, tidy, and a bit safe n boring.

I love Home Beautiful magazines, I subscribed to them when we were building. I still collect them and we moved in 2.5yrs ago. I love googling and discovering blogs about home style. So many great Aussie ones.

Oh and although we have been here a while we weren't able to furnish it all so we still are playing catch up. And we finally bought the kids matching beds and nice bed covers and stuff. So it's a work in progress. We are already discussing what renovating we will do in 5 years time. Argh!
