I know there will be a lot of variation but am just worried that maybe my 3yr old should be able to put more clothes on than what he can. He can get undressed fine but can only seem to manage undies &/or pants but its pot luck if they are the right way. He knows his left from right & can put shoes & socks on. It is partially my fault as we dont really give him the chance so I intend to start trying to let him learn on the days he doesn't have daycare & were not in a rush & put his pjs on. Any tips on how to make it more fun or easy for him to understand what way clothes go?

My DD was about 14 months old when she could undress and then redress herself - her motivation was that she had very particular ideas about what she wanted to wear.

DS at 6 still needs help! but he can dress himself, he just likes me to do it because he gets more mummy time.

Some kids are better at it than others, but I'm sure if you give him a bit more of a chance he will learn to do it easily in the next year or so.

I left all the labels in DD's shorts and pants, and told her to hold them so that the side where she could see the label should be closest to the front of her body when she picked them up to put them on.

T'shirts, just let them pull them over their heads, and let them feel for the label which should be at the back, then slip each arm through the sleeve.

She's 3.5 and dresses herself most of the time but asks for help with buttons sometimes.

I am a kindergarten teacher and still have to help the 7 year olds get changed sometimes. Just getting shoes right at 3 is pretty impressive in my book!

Dd is just over 3, she can undress herself, do shoes and socks but I must admit I always dress her.

What fresh hell is this?
With my 5yo, it depends on the day.

On school days, she is curiously unable to dress herself, at all.

On weekends, however, she miraculously gains the ability, only to lose it all again come Monday rolleyes.gif

She was pretty good at it by 2.5, now at 3 I'm not allowed to help with any of it, shoes included.
