My DH was in the lift the other day when a family who live on our floor got on. They have two boys, and one of them was completely naked. They were coming from the car park in the basement to their floor, so not completely out in public, but my DH was mortified! He said they weren't concerned at all, kept chatting away to him. I said well maybe it's just a once off, maybe the kid was sick in the car, etc. but he says well, why not at least mention it, even apologise or explain? So WDYT? Ok to let your kids run around in the nude in public?

There are all sorts of things that happen with kids that can end up with them being relatively unclothed, through to totally naked.

In an apartment building that I lived in, from car to unit, I probably wouldn't think too much of it. Would just smile understandingly if anything.

In a shopping centre or public arena (other than beach, I suppose) it may be a bit difficult.

I don't have too much issue with nudity, especially in young children. I don't think that every set of stranger eyes belong to a paedophile, who is going to get turned on by a naked child.

So no, no big deal in my world.

Don't know whether I would go so far as to say that going from car to front door is really "in public". Unless the son is a teen or adult I don't see that there is a problem. Do they do this often? He may have had an "accident" in the car and they might not have wanted to have to explain to your DH.

I wouldn't bat an eyelid if it were a young child in the situation you describe, which I don't actually think is 'public' anyway. I would think it stranger for a slightly older child, and even weirder for a teen!

I don't think it's cause for mortification though.

sanity is over-rated
boys...

are we talking toddlers/preschoolers/primary school/pre-teen?

Anything under primary school i wouldn't even bat an eyelid at... kids can be stubborn and unpredictable little buggers! They could be trying to prove a point to a child who refuses to get dressed, an accident in the car, etc etc...

older kids i might have raised an eyebrow but still wouldn't expect an apoligy!

Apologise for the fact that your DH had to see a naked child? I don't get it. Is a naked child offensive?

and this.

No way would I expect an apology. What for?

ETA : I wouldn't be surprised if someone offered an explanation. Then again, I wouldn't think it was odd if they didn't offer an explaination either.

My kids went through a long stage of taking their clothes off...not a big deal, unless of course the 'kid' was actually 18!
