And how do you?

We decided to go for a bushwalk today. Looked on the net and found a 3 km walk to a beach, you could then follow the beach, climb the hill at the northern end and enjoy some great views. So off we go.

We reach the beach. 'Let's go look at those rocks' I say. Quickly followed by 'Actually, let's not. That man is naked.' Kids (12 and 7) don't believe me and start squinting in the man's direction before deciding he is indeed naked and it's strange, yet amusing.

So we head off in the other direction. My son suddenly stops walking. 'Look! He's naked too!' he yells excitedly while pointing at a man reclining on the dunes. 'And him!' Pointing at another. I shush him and keep walking till we are a bit further along the beach then tell them both if they see anyone else naked, just keep walking and look at the scenery.

Well, this is the funniest thing my 12 year old has ever heard. She laughs and laughs, points at an imaginary crutch and sings out 'I can see your scenery, I can see your scenery.'

The rest of the day has passed with random mentions of the word scenery which have us all giggling conspiritually.

Sooo immature but so fun.

So has your family ever found yourself amongst nudists, and how did you react?

No, we have never come upon a nudist beach. However, DS was watching the gymnastics for the first time the other week and he couldnt understand "why is she not wearing pants?" His is a more philosophical curiosity, however, he is only 4.

If you were in Syd on the North Side I may happen to know where you were walking. We would pass that on bushwalks as a kid (knew it to be nudist beach). Mum was always 'eyes ahead' though.

Our favourite beach growing up (and still today) is considered a nudist beach, it just happen to be the beach that was the most beautiful (my sister got married there)....
Along with being a nudie beach, it's also very much a family beach so we never thought it was weird....
But then I watched a thing on tv a couple of weeks ago about a nudist colony and I'm not sure how I felt about that...? Weird eh?

EDIT: Have you ever swum nude? It's the BEST feeling! Everything is all wibbly-wobbly and free! original.gif

My kids are 2, 5, 6 and 8 and I honestly don't think they would care.

Everyone is naked under their clothes shrug.gif

They've seen a billion birth videos, read my anatomy books, see DH and I nude daily and I've never stopped them from seeing nudity on TV (sex and violence, yes, but not plain nudity).

No, we are in QLD. Neither the page describing the walk nor the map mentioned it was a nudist beach. I think it was the surprise that made it so comical, I will never tell the kids to 'look at the scenery' again without having a bit of a chuckle.

We don't tend to make a point of covering up at home either. Doesn't mean it's not a surprise to see people starkers in public.

We went for a walk at an old hang out a few months ago and it seems to be have been taken over by nudists - male nudists in particular. I am not sure what the official status of the land is.....you have to kind of walk through a fence to get there, but it's been a popular walk with locals for ever. In any case, we were pretty astounded to see individual and small groups of naked men scattered around catching some sun. At age 5 though, DS didn't particularly notice. We found a sheltered spot away from others and tried to enjoy our picnic anyway!

Was it at Noosa per chance?

My youngest 2 would be like woot! and immediately strip off. My oldest one would probably strip and run around for a while with his hands between his legs to preserve his modesty, and then get tired of it and join his brother and sister.

Or strenuously object if i said no.
