I'm wondering if people are following the embassy situation, and what people hope will be the outcome of it.

Julian Assange is like a burr in my brain because I know him from somewhere but can't place it...I think we went to the same school briefly.

Whistleblowing should be a real white-knight activity but when it strays into diplomatic material, it's not quite so morally clear-cut.

I do believe our Government has been extraordinarily limp-wristed in its reaction to his situation.

Apparently, from what I've read, the 'rape' allegations relate not to forced sex exactly, but rather to Sweden laws against unsafe sex.

So WDYT? What would you like to see happen.

I'd like to wriggle my nose and make him disappear. Seriously, why can't they conduct the trial for the Swedish allegations with him giving evidence by video from London?

is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?
I think we should be robustly assisting him.

Whether his actions came from a place of altruism or as a narcississistic grab at a footnote in the tome of history, he's our citizen and we should be doing more.

So much time and effort went into keeping Schapelle Corby off death row, why not JA?

I believe the Swedish have refused for procedural reasons which Assange supporters are assuming to mean coercive tactics, like indefinite isolation etc.

Wikileaks has placed peoples lives in danger through disclosing peoples names publicly.

I dont think Assange really cared about the consequences for them when he made the disclosures. He comes across as a narcissistic person TBH.

I just wonder if that was me in the same situation if Ecuador would be happy to take me on as a political asylum, or if it is just because he is a high profile person

I wish the police would put as much effort into chasing criminals instead of chasing a man who has p*ssed off heaps of political heacyweights.

Never forget who you are, little star
I think he is a victim of political persecution. From what I have observed of the rape charges, he was set up in Sweden as a direct result of his Wikileaks activities. Sweden has been described as the lapdog of the USA.

It is all a bit frightening really, that the British and Australian governments are effectively being held to ransom by the US government.

The UK is being rediculous right now. Revoking diplomatic rights because someone - who has not been convicted of a crime - needs to go in for questioning?

Also; the women themselves are not pressing charges. This is coming from authorities only. the 'crime' that the women he slept with asked him to wear a condom during their consentual sexual activities - and he did not.
which in my book is gross. and not right.
But is it really worth chasing a man half-way around the world for?
Is it worth changing diplomatic process for?

I dont think it is. And I would hope all those involved in this affair could spend some time catching real criminals.
I thought at first Assange was paranoid for not returning to Swedan. But now I think they will do everything he says they want to do to him. Otherwise why would they be going through this?
