My DD1 is really into her skipping with her skipping rope at the moment.

I was skipping with her the other day and told her about a song I used to sing when I was little and skipping.

I can only remember one line of the song. can anyone else remember this song?

You used to sing this song when there was a long skipping rope with two people at each end.

The part of the song I remember is:

I bought a motor car in 1964 and drove it around the coooorner.

When you said corner you would run around one end of the skipping rope and jumped back in to continue jumping.

TIA

Thanks for the link. I'm going through them now.

Wow there are so many.

This is the close. I don't remember the first two lines being this - maybe there is another one like this but the last two I remember now.

I am a little trolley car.
My number's 48.
I went around the cor-or-orner
And I slammed on my brakes.

thanks again original.gif

The version I remember was a bit like this:

Had a little sports car,
Two-forty-eight,
Ran around the cor-(skipper jumps out, and turners continue the syllable until they reenter)-ner
and SLAMMED on the brakes!
Policeman caught me and put me in jail
All I had was gingerale
How many bottles did I drink?
Goes, 10! 20! 30! 40!

Hope this will jog your memory OP.

... and another one (yes I am enjoying this): I remember skipping to this.

Cinderella dressed in yella
Went down town to meet a fella
On the way her girdle busted.
How many people were disgusted? (count jumps)

Except that you would need to replace the word "girdle" ! I can't remember what we said, might have been girdle, might have been "undies" or "knickers".

Racecar number 96, racing around the cooooooorner,
put on the brakes, but the brakes didn't work so he's racing round the coooooooooorrner,
Put on the brakes, the brakes, the brakes.

Keep it real & stay with the fight...
When I was a youngun, my skipping songs were along the lines of...

"Shirley Temple was a star
S...T...A...R...
She could do the wiggle-wobble
She could do the splits
She could lift her dress right up to her hips!"

Add in assorted arm-lines and skirt lifting. And all in the middle of the playground ohmy.gif My mother would've been so proud laughing2.gif

No no no! I am shocked and appalled.

It is:

Cinderella
Dressed in yella
Went upstairs to kiss a fella
By mistake she kissed a snake
How many doctors did it take? (count jumps)

Tis ok LDD, don't panic:

your version was listed as the equally valid alternative.

But in suburban Melbourne in the 70s is was definitely the girdle version lol.

I remember something with:

Going to kentucky, going to the fair
To see the senorita with the flowers in her hair
Shake it shake it shake it
Shake it all you can
Shake it like a milkshake
A milkshake in a can
Shimmy to the bottom, shimmy to the top
Turn around and turn around until you have to stop

Which, now, sounds vaguely like "off to see the strippers!" but it was a more innocent age?
