Hi,

For some reason I've ended up in a job I don't like AT ALL!! I am the wrong person for my job on so many levels it's not funny.
I've always been a creative person and my dream has always been to work in Graphic Design.
I would love to have a little home business designing logo's, invitations, business cards etc. Eventually maybe expanding it into photography and webdesign (hoping that I could do the whole package for businesses/small companies eventually).

First of all, I realise this doesn't happen overnight. I would have to go back to school for a few years (Cert IV in Graphic Design) and then to establish myself will take years as well. I am not looking at a big business. Just something small I can do on the side as a SAHM.

Has anyone done a certificate with Open Colleges? Or would you suggest going to TAFE (this course is only available full time +/- 20hrs a week). Has anyone done Graphic Design?

Still in the early stages of figuring out what I want!

Thanks for listening :-)

Shillington College has a good reputation. Graphic design is well suited to WAH, freelance stuff, building your client list can be hard though. I think combining it with web design is a good idea. Good luck!

Hi Hertzy,

I'm Jason and I work for a company called SEEK Learning, so do take this with a grain of salt but I thought could provide you with some tips to help you in your research.

Have you decided yet if you want to keep working full time or part time while you study, or are you thinking of leaving your job to study full time? Your answer to these questions should probably guide your research when searching for educational providers in graphic design.

For example, you might want to search for providers who offer online or distance graphic design certificates if you still want to work while you study. This is often the path many people take when they're looking to change careers. Alternatively, depending on your circumstances, you may want to investigate whether you'd qualify for Austudy if you're thinking of going back to full time study.

Your story has actually reminded me of a student story shared recently by one of our learning consultants, Adrian. It's quite inspiring, you might enjoy it: http://youtu.be/-J5A_Pvn_XQ

Good luck with your studies Hertzy and happy to help if you're after any further advice or support.

JB
