Struggling to find good Australian accent apps. A teacher friend recommended the first two (they are phonics). Any one else got any great suggestions

Intro to Reading - Oz Phonics
http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/introtoread...8?ls=1&mt=8
(looks great and kids like it - kids only new to it so will see how they go)

Profs phonics
http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/profs-phoni...d511712292?mt=8
(old style graphics - done by university professor in Tasmania)

Reading eggs
http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/eggy-100-hd/id533640641?mt=8
(kids don't like it but at least it is Australian)

Wiggles
http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/wiggles-alp...d489751004?mt=8
(kids love it but not sure of educational value)

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/introtoread...8?ls=1&mt=8

think there is also an iphone app.

might be a good idea to post your question in the NZ part of this site. I think there is a NZ question area(????)

There's some new reading eggs apps, ones called tap the cat and one is a spelling one that has a lite version so you can try it out. My boys like them...

Take a look at Phonics Hero.

It has a mild UK accent but still sounds better than some of the others that I have looked into which are more American than Australian.

Good luck with it.

thanks for the suggestions.

Oz Phonics app with kiwi accent setting worked a treat. Think about the old "fish and chips" Kiwi/Australian joke and you know how big the difference is for the vowel sounds.

Just tried the phonics hero app as well (it is free) but my daughter was not happy about putting the fairies in the jar and refused to play it any more!!! Does look to be a lot of content in the app so well worth a download for free but I do wish the people that make these sort of apps would think about what they put in them - it's plain stupid to put that sort of animation in - obviously they haven't seen Tinkerbell the movie!!!!! Ughhh, they've also got ghosts (with sound effects) - at least they did appear to be smiling ghosts!!!!

Let her know that she lets all the fairies go at the end of the game - We have watched Tinkerbell (have you seen the new one?) and I think she would be OK.
