My DD is 6 1/2 months old and I have noticed that she settles much more easily when she has her comforter (a little blankie, one side soft, the other side satin with a teddy head).

She has it for naps when out and about in her pram but I am sitting waiting for her to fall asleep in the cot atm before gently pulling it away. I am paranoid about possible suffocation ...

My best friend thinks I'm being over cautious and that at this age, when my daughter can roll both ways and get up and rock on her hands and knees it is fine for her to have a little comforter (she doesn't have a dummy)

Any comments, suggestions, experiences would be appreciated, thanks!

I won't comment on the risk - only you can decide whether you are comfortable with it or not. However, we decided at around 8 months that we were happy for DS to have a comfort toy, when we stopped wrapping him once he started rolling.

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. I have always been super cautious in regards to sids, so it's just hard to know when it's ok ... DD hasn't been wrapped since about 8 weeks, she sleeps in a sleeping bag.

I have thought about getting my bub one of those little blanke toys but the SIDS risk puts me off. He is almost 8 months and rolls, crawls commando style and can get up on hands and knees but I still wonder if he would wake if the blanket somehow ended up over his face. I do put a couple of small soft toys in his cot and when he wakes up in the morning he is often talking to them.
