Keep it real & stay with the fight...
Have come across some great looking recipes for home-made Spring Rolls. Only trouble is, I don't have a deep fryer, and am not sure if I want to pour copious quantities of Vegetable Oil into a wok, and then have to get rid of it somehow.

So, do you have to deep fry these? Or can you just spray them with oil and bake them instead?

Oh, and by the way, if I did go the "pouring copious quantities of Vegetable Oil into a wok", how do you safely dispose of it? Also, if you pour the used oil into a different bottle, how long does it last before going rancid?

I know, dumb question, but I've never deep fried anything.

Yeah you can cook them in the oven. I don't know the specifics, but I remember its how my friend and her mum did it at a get together of theirs, and they were divine!!!

ETA: Google says 220 degrees, 20 mins, turning after 10 mins.

Ignorance is not a point of view.
Yep, I have brushed them with oil (or you can use the spray oil stuff) and then baked them. original.gif

If you do deep fry, you can use a small saucepan and do them in small batches so you don't have to use so much oil. I usually re-use the oil 2-3 times depending on the food. I dispose of it by pouring it either in the garden (bury it) or put it in a glass jar and put it in the bin. (I'm not sure what the correct way is though?)

Oh yes, this too. Then you just turn them over. It means you use a lot less oil. I actually have a deep fryer but don't use it because of the ridiculous amount of oil you have to use.

I usually make fresh spring rolls so no need for any cooking at all. Shallow frying in smaller batches works well if you do want fried though. The whole cooking in lots of oil has always put me off making fried ones when the fresh ones are also very yummy and almost no fat!

Re: oil, if you've got empty milk containers you can use those to fill with the cooled frying oil, and then dump it in your regular trash.

With the spring rolls, I find that shallow frying works just as well. original.gif
