Wishing, and hoping, and thinking, and praying
Im just wondering if someone can help me out here please?

My twin DD's are currently rear facing (of course) and im wondering if this is still safe - :

They are always using the anchor straps to pull themselves up into a sitting position. I cant see the benefit of rear facing if they are always sitting so to speak? Id really like them to continue rear facing for another 6 months or more, any suggestions??

Are their shoulder straps tight enough? My son could't pull himself to sitting because the shoulder straps kept him down. Maybe tighten these, otherwise if they are just playing with the anchor straps and not making them loose I don't think there is a problem, it would be more that they are in their loose enough or getting loose to sit up that would worry me

DS2 used to try and sit up before we changed car seats, he just wanted to be more upright. He'd been in a Mothers Choice car seat which was fairly horizontal, we've switched him to a Hipod Cairo which is much more upright rear facing seat and he's stopped trying to sit up.

Are they sitting up so they can see each other? A mirror between their seats might be helpful if that is the case.

Also are their shoulder straps tight enough? I don't think they should be able to pull themselves upright if their straps are tight enough.

As PP have said tighten the straps. Can you change the install angle to be more upright?

I think im pretty limited as to how much vertical they can be. They are both in the same Mother's Choice as well. There straps are reasonably tight?? Definatley not loose but not over the top tight! They cant see each other as one is on the side, the other in the middle and DS the other side. They keep craning their necks to see me, DS and trying to sit up. Its going to be tough sad.gif

Mother's choice are only for RF to a younger age so I don't know youn will get along time RF out of the seats. They are approved using 9kg test dummies.

I havent been too worried about their weights as they are teeny - not even 7kgs yet. ts more their heights im worried about. I really cant afford two new car seats to keep them rear facing, so im thinking about how i can use the seats i have to RF a bit longer.

ETD: Just out of interest which car seats and what weights to they normally go to RFing??

You're not going to get much longer out of those Mothers Choice seats.
Mothers Choice seats are only rated to 9kg and they don't allow for an infant much longer than a small 6 month old.
Our 3 1/2 month old DS2 is already bigger than I am comfortable with for rear facing in a Mothers Choice seat and with his limited neck control I'm not prepared to turn him around. The hipod Cairo which he is in now allows you to rear face them for MUCH longer, our tall 18 month old DD has only just outgrown it's rearfacing limit and because it is a very upright seat it actually fits into tighter confines than the Mothers Choice car seat DS2 started out in.

Kmart has a cheap car seat is pretty much identical to our Cairo, it's only $129 so might be worthwhile looking at for your situation? The Cairo was only $109 when we purchased it but I can't see it on the online store so I'm not sure if Target still stocks them.

As PP said short time RF. 70 cm approx is the height for such a seat.

Infa also produce the Neon/ascent has high RF and FF markers. Internally I believe infa test their seats to 15kgs RF in anticipation of the nextAust Std change. Current standard testing is to max of 12kgs.

The accent is currently $119 at toys r us
