How much money is to be made in computer sales, the selling lots to businesses type sales?

Friend's DF has the appearance of making a LOT of money, very expensive car, house, os trips, etc etc but refuses to tell his fiancé anything about financial affairs - until they are married. She's pretty naive. So I'm just curious as to whether his job sustains this sort of lifestyle (I believe he get lots of bonuses when he meets targets) or whether he is debted up to his eyeballs?

Of course there are other ways he could have lots of money eg an inheritance, won lotto etc. Just being nosey!

ETA: He works for one of the big name computers companies, not a small company.

It depends. You can make a lot, or not much at all.

I would certainly not be marrying anybody that refuses to share their financial position till after marriage.

Edited to add my FIL sells mainframes to the public sector and earns a shirtload. It is possible to rake it in.

My husband worked in that industry for years until we bought our own business. He still has many friends that work in it. There is hardly any money in it from what I've seen and/or heard.

Nammuch! In my experience, most companies buy direct from the manufacturer (Dell, etc) and generally have someone in house who knows how to handle the setup/image-loading.

I suppose it's possible he's found a niche that allows him to swing all that but I sure wouldn't be tying my finances and liability to anyone who wasn't open about their money sitch.

Depends what he is selling and to whom? It could be anywhere from $50000 to $300000. Maybe, even more.

DH has worked for a few different PC sales/service companies.

For all of them there has been no money in sales, it is on made on service contracts.

There's always potential to make good money in sales in any industry if you're good.
