Looking through the responses on the other topic about engagement rings, I was just wondering, how many of you have coloured stones? I have a pink sapphire surrounded by white diamonds, I love it, but I'm sometimes asked if it's real, or if I feel like I missed out on a "proper" engagement ring. They act like since it's not all diamond, it doesn't count. Did anyone else get this?

Trust me... I'm a scientician
Sounds pretty.

I have diamonds, I'm boring. My mother has a beautiful aquamarine engagemet ring and I love it. I think some of her friends thought it a peculiar choice given she got to choose it herself, but it's what she wanted original.gif

I purposely did not want a diamond.

I have a lovely large yellow citrine engagement ring - suits my skin colour.

I get lots of compliments but there were a couple of 'friends' I could tell thought their rings were superior because they were diamonds.

I love coloured gemstones.

I have a pink sapphire too and love it. I was never interested in having a big diamond and would have been peeved if DH ignored my preferences and got one.

People have only ever been complimentary about my ring.

Mine is an emerald - my all time favourite stone.

The only issue I had was the politics of mined gems, particularly emeralds and diamonds, so we chose old, old stones which I had re-set.

Semper Fi. You rat, you fry.
Mine too is a (real) pink sapphire surrounded by diamonds too. I love it.

Looks like this, not exact, but close enough lol.

ETA: Yeah i get people feeling "sorry" for me because 'they got a diamond' but i don't give a crap. My ring is gorgeous, it's me all over and i adore it.

I have a ruby (oval) with a smaller diamond on each side. I love it. We both prefer coloured stones.
I do however have a diamond eternity ring on the other hand I got for my 10th wedding anniversary.
