We'll also be putting an apple in both of their stockings, it's something my mum always did to us.
As kids , our mum put oranges in our stockings, as that we she got in hers as a child.
When I started doing it for our kids, DP was a bit taken aback and started waxing lyrical during Xmas lunch about poverty during my mums generation, and how oranges probably provided much needed nutrition.
Mum giggled and told him the oranges were used to fill out the toes of the stocking, and that although very poor they had lots of fruit trees and vegetable gardens
He only waxes his nose hairs now.
And I put a chocolate orange in his stocking.
