HI
Just after some suggestions I'm planing to make roast chicken for dinner for few friends. most likely Maggie Beer's garlic and verjuice one. I'm thinking of serving it with potatoes, I'm also thinking of making creamed spinach. So the question is would it be better to make a salad or will the creamed spinach go with the rest of the dishes? Dessert is a rich chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. What do you think

Maybe some steamed vegies like carrot, cauliflower and broccoli to go with it? Just to fill up the plate?
Or some roast pumpkin/carrots/sweet potato as as the potatoes?

I'd go with crispy garlic + rosemary roast potatoes with steamed beans and broccoli. The greens are nice with slivered almonds and butter.

Or, I love crispy roast potatoes and a good homemade coleslaw using whole egg mayo.

I haven't seen Maggie Beer's roast chicken recipe. You should check out Jamie Oliver's roast chook ... yum, once I followed his principles for roasting chicken, I very rarely buy a store bought BBQ chicken. He makes a bread stuffing with thyme, bread, whole garlic cloves, butter and salt & pepper. It's basted with salt, more thyme and heaps of butter throughout the cooking process. I cook it on the BBQ with the hood down.
