several real estate agents around here personally address their marketing advertising,

ie. mr and mrs .....
addresss
suburb. state

we have this property for sale, maybe you would like to sell too etc etc.

our house is only in my name, so all council records show me as sole owner, yet all these letters are addressed as above to mr and mrs LAST NAME. do you think it is rude to assume that I'm a mrs and therefore address their letters that way? it's not something I loose sleep over, I'm just curious!

Not rude, but odd. Especially if it's clear there is only one property owner. shrug.gif

I wouldn't pay much attention, they are just trying to create sales.
It's different if it's someone you actually know sends things with the wrong salutation.

Considering now that we've rented for 7 years and had similar letters wherever we've lived, I assume they aren't really looking into intimate details. It doesn't take long to get addresses from white pages online. I guess there are no spamming rules for mail to be sent to you - only email spam.

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
Lazy and grounds for not listing with them. I'm the only name on the title and I'm not Mrs anyone, so it'd p*ss me off.

Mummy to 4 Blessings and 1 Angel.
Every 3-6 months I get a phone call from a real estate saying we're on their list of people who had been enquiring for houses and wanting to know if we were still looking to buy in the area.

We bought our home from this real estate almost 4 years ago. I've told them so every time suggested they remove my name from this list as we're happy here wink.gif but 3-6 months later I get another phone call.

I'm also on another list with the same real estate which gets phone calls and letters asking I we'd like to sell the house. They started just over a month after we bought the house wink.gif bright buttons aren't they?

Well yes, I do think that sexism is rude.

Telemarketers who call me Mrs Kitteh on the phone get short shrift on the same principle.

I would be inclined to contact them and let them know that if and when you do decide to sell it will be through an agency that isn't living in a Stepford Wives' timewarp.

But I'm not in a very good mood this evening ph34r.gif

poor judgement rather than rude. And probably lazy - they are just covering their bases.

We got those letters when we were living in rented company-owned housing, so I don't think they get the info from council records. The only place they could have got our names and that address from was the electoral roll. We were getting letters in WA from an agent in Qld.
