DH bought a new Telly on Saturday from Hardly Normal.

Just looking for some information about it online and I have found the exact same tv in their website for $311 less to pick up free in store.

I feel peeved tbh as the salesman assured him he was giving him a great deal and we also only 4 months ago spent $5k on furniture with them.

So my plan is to ring them tomorrow and ask if they price match Tounge1.gif

If they say yes I am going to explain I would like them to price match their own price, and ask to be refunded the difference.

What do you think my chances are? Or will I be wasting my time?

Father Dougal for the Papacy!
I would definitely be giving that a go. That is outrageously bad customer service.

Double check that its exactly the same TV- a 200hz TV will cost more than a 100hz TV for example, check all the stats that they match the one you bought before you go in guns blazing. If they do, then go for it, even if they don't meet you all the way, you may get something out of them. You haven't got anything to lose!

I checked the model numbers and its the exact same model.

Truthfully we have more furniture we want to order over the next few months and if they don't price match, I will take my business elsewhere.

or Fembo maybe...
That's appalling.

Don't call it price matching - even if they DON'T price match they should be meeting their own advertised prices!
I'd ask politely first for a refund, and push it harder if they kick up a fuss, ask to speak to the person's manager, head office, etc. until you get a result. If you need to, threaten to call Fair Trading (even though it will likely do very little).

I would be very surprised if they did not agree to refund you the difference, it would be really shoddy if they didn't. And let us know the result!

swimming in a sea of chocolate! :)
You can try but don't expect them to come to the party. You should have done your research before you purchased.

Most places have stuff cheaper online but you need to tell them you saw it at $xx price on their online shop. They are hardly going to offer it to you at such a price if you didn't ask. They can sell it cheaper online as they don't have to pay the salespersons wage.

I always haggle in those kinds of places, though I never shop at HN.

OP earlier this year DH and I bought a brand new car. After several months, we were told that the one we had on order didn't look like it was going to me made anymore. (That part is true.) We were told though that they were bringing out the same car in a limited edition with lots of extras. For my trouble and for keeping us hanging, they said they would do it for the same price as the one we had ordered.

A quick Google search and 10 minutes later I realised that the limited edition vehicle was RRP $2k cheaper than the middle of the range model we had ordered. The one we ordered we had bargained free on roads as well so they were trying to rip us off by about 3k. mad.gif In the end we did by that model.... for 3k cheaper than the special deal they were going to give us for our trouble!!!

Moral of the story is to never believe a sales person. They rely on the fact that a lot of people actually don't do their research. (My mother is one of these people that would be conned into paying above the RRP!!) If nothing else, take this as a lesson learned. They are really good at making you believe they've looked after you when they haven't. Never trust a salesman!!

We are now a family of four! Girls rule the roost!
My dad has done a similar thing and gone back and asked for his money back on the difference and they did it without blinking at HN.
