TBH $20k isn't muich to start a business with. I would invest it and wait till I'd a bigger amount first.

Well, despite that, I'd like to expand my aquaponics and find a way to generate an income from the produce. Micro greens to local restaurants perhaps?

I agree.. then when i had enough i would open a cafe/ wool shop complete with knitting lessons and courses...

If I had that money to spend towards business, I would spend it photography equipment. A new DSLR, some new lenses and if there was any left after that I would get some studio equipment lighting etc.

I was watching something on TV recently OP about a farmer who provided some small specialty vegies/greens/edible flowers etc to some of Sydney's best restaurants. They seemed hard to source so might be a good idea

on $20k it would have to be an internet based business of some sort. Low start up costs and overheads and you could still work until it returned enough of a profit as being online you wouldn't have to worry about a shop front etc

cake decorating, from home, internet orders pick-up or delivery to within 1.5 hours from me.....
that 20,000 would get all the supplies i need to start and start up costs of business name, website etc

It's not a lot but it is enough for some start ups. Something web based selling a service and not a product. Something you are a specialist in where you have good knowledge of the market and what it needs.

Me? I'd never do it. I don't have the entrepreneurial qualities right now.

Customised wordpress theme website with a shopping cart developed via freelancer.com for $500
Product photographer found on gumtree for $100

Once market test is complete, hoping to bring a first shipment into the country for under $10000.

I did do an overseas sourcing trip! But that doubles as a holiday:-)

So, online niche business might be an answer, if you have patience to build it up slowly...I hope!,
