Graeme Base' Little Elephants looks good.
Also like the Lonely Planet's Not For Parents Travel Book
which is good for preteens, or even reluctant teen readers. I bought it for a 10 year old's birthday.
Also ordered National Geographics 2012 Almanac for my 7 year old from Amazon, not sure where you'd get it here though.
For fantasy lovers, Emily Rodda's latest trilogy is great - The last one just released, so very current. The Golden Door, The Silver Door and The Third Door. I loved them too, so suitable from preteen to teenager.
