Just looking at opinions on these lenses.

More looking at taking photos of the kids (who prefer not to have their photo taken, so from a distance).

Eta we have the D3100 with single lens of 18-55

The 18-200 is quite a bit more expensive than the 55-200 - what is your budget? Could you stretch it to the 80-200?? Are you still going to use your 18-55 as well - or are you looking to replace both lenses?

Its quite simple, you already have the 18-55 so finish it off with the 55-200 You then have 18-200 range.

Or if you don't like changing lenses, get the 18-200.

They are probably similar performing lenses as they are kit type lenses.
