Hi everyone,

I've been to Tasmania before but in October and DH has just now, out of the blue, suggested a week in Tassie over the Chistmas/New Year period. Of course I've jumped up and down with glee, but I thought I'd come here and ask some basic questions before i get my hopes up! original.gif

How hot does it get (surely not as bad as horrible old Brisbane during this time)?

Is it madly busy during this period, will we have trouble booking a hire car and accommodation? Motels or camping?

Thanks for your comments!

Peanut

It is a lovely time to come and visit as there is heaps on to do and see. However, down side is that accommodation books out fast, especially for the duration of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.

As for weather, well one cannot always tell. I remember a few Christmases with snow on Mt Wellington ohmy.gif, lots with rain and others that were scorchers. Very hard to predict. However, just remember that a 25 degree day here is a lot "hotter" so to speak then a 25 degree day in other places. I have lived (amongst other places) in Sydney and Melbourne and the heat is a lot more intense down here.

Happy Planning, I'd get on to the accommodation ASAP.

we are having lovely weather at the moment and a month from now it will hopefully be just as lovely. 20 odd degrees most days at the moment but it does cool at night so definitely pack jumpers. It can be hot one day cool the next so you really have to be prepared with a couple of sets of cool clothes. Coming from Brisbane it will likely be a nice break from the heat you are used to but we do still get the odd 38 degree day pop up. I would highly recommend you make the trip, it really is a great time of year.

Thanks! I'm onto the accommodation right now, if I can prove to DH that we can get some then (hopefully) its a done deal!

I'd love to see snow on Mt Wellington! It snowed the day we arrived last visit but we were headed to Port Arthur in a massive campervan (our first experience driving one of them), so we decided not to turn around and try to get up the mountain. By the time we got back to Hobart it had all gone. sad.gif

I don't care what the weather does really, I'm just hugely keen to return to your beautiful island!

If you do make it down here, consider Wynyard for Christmas Eve where one of the best Christmas Parades runs at 7.00pm on Christmas Eve. People turn out in droves to see it biggrin.gif

Thanks Chelli and Newkie, sorry I didn't get back to reply sooner.

Looks like an unforseen work event has popped up for DH so we can't come down at this time, booo hiss. mad.gif

(DH has promised a trip down next year sometime though, YAY!!).

And if you're near Turner's Beach on the NW, drop into the strawberry farm on the side of the highway. You get to pick your own strawberries and they are some of the best you'll ever taste!
