DD is almost 3 and a half and I am looking for a good and well-priced dance school in the Northern suburbs which specialises in ballet? I was a dancer once upon a time so I do know of a few schools to stay away from too!! But just thought I would get a gauge from other parents what schools were reputable. I do not want to be paying over $80 per term for her age group. And also keeping in mind that I don't want it to be a huge school where the concert goes for 3 or more hours (I know there are a few of those around too and think they can just be over-done). I am also not fussed with singing or drama as part of the school and costumes need to be inexpensive at concert-time (I remember one of the schools I was once at the costumes - even for tiny tots- were $70 each) and that was 10 years ago!!

DD 5 goes to Jane Grech Dance Centre. All the little kids start doing ballet - its the base of all dance

It might be a bit far for you but they have dance class over my way. Registrations for next year are happening now so its the right time to start looking.

The concert this year only goes for 1 or so hours I think. The costume is paid off in installments over two terms and included in the fees. Fees are about $90 a term (school term). The biggest outlay is the dance costume and ballet shoes in the beginning but they do offer a free first lesson so you can see if its something your DD A would like or not before purchasing the gear.

Jane Grech are a great school. But it is a little far for us to come There are a few schools who do the $70 per term for 10x 30 min classes but the concerts are huge as they have 2-3 separate studios around Adelaide and combine the studios at concert time.

I do really want her to start with ballet, as I started with jazz and I know how hard it was technique-wise to get when I started classical when I was much older. She just went to a friends hip-hop concert on the weekend and loved it but is adament she wants to do ballet. I would be seeing how she went for a first lesson though- she might not like it and being away from me may daunt her slightly (will be really good for her though). So might need to wait another year if she won't part from me!!

My daughter used to go to Turning Point dance. They are fantastic (especially as a specialised ballet school) BUT they have a huge end of year concert that requires rehearsals every Sunday of the last term (including for the little ones) BUT your child does not need to partake in the concert.
