Hello, fellow Christmas shoppers! I'm hoping someone can help me.

DH and I want to get DS (5) a bike for Christmas.

We're inclined to get a proper, bike shop bike, rather than a K-Mart/Big W bike.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

The average 5 year old is on a small frame 20" bike. Look at the radius explosive, giant moda, or mongoose racer x. If he needs training wheels make sure the rear axle is long enough for them to be fitted or it will cost you more
If he doesnt need training wheels and you want gears look at the giant veer with 3 gears and back pedal brake.

If he is small then look sat a 16" like the giant animator, mongoose Mity goose or radius dinosaur these come with training wheels

If you measure his inside leg any good bike shop should be able to work out what size he needs.

We got our dd a Giant bike. It's nice and light and strong, would recommend the brand.Eta oh yes ours is the veer as per luvmy4 mentioned

When DS got his bike for Christmas, we told him Santa needed to know what size so we took him to the local bike shop and had him try some for size. We ended up getting the Mity Goose. Buying from a specialist shop means that you know you are getting one which has been put together properly, and hopefully you are getting good after sale service. We returned a couple of weeks after Christmas to have DS's bike checked and the nuts and bolts tightened.
