We recently put our DS into Childcare for one day a week, on the recommendation of the paediatrician for socialisation. I am not working, and DH earns too much for us to be eligable for CCR or CCB.

Childcare are having trouble with the CRNs we have provided them and can't get them to work, and told us we need to contact Centrelink to sort it out. We asked if that is necessary, seeing as we can't get anything back, can't we just pay and be done with it? They said Centrelink still need to know...

So wise EBers, can anyone tell me WHY Centrelink need to know? Are they monitoring our every move now? Why can't we just pay for childcare privately out of our own pockets?

PS: DH doesn't have time to call CL today, thus why I'm asking here original.gif

I don't know for sure, but I imagine there may be some reporting on the part of the daycare regarding full-fee paying and subsidised places?

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
I imagine it's like going to the doctor without your Medicare card. It messes with the system. Also, there's more to the administration of a childcare centre and its regulation than whetger you get money back. All kids need to be in the system so the government can ensure that regulations are being applied appropriately.

I have no idea, but I feel your pain Effin' Centrelink. Or Centrestink, as my sis likes to call it ("Yes, I'm still disabled...amazingly, my whacked-out brain function problem for the last 15 years, that my doctor says is for life, is still ongoing...")

Maybe it is if any circumstances changes, ie you separate, DH loses his job. If you are in the system then you may be eligible for a rebate on what you have already paid.

Are the children's CRNs attached to your DH's or yours? Are you able to ring yourself and inquire?

You may not be eligible for childcare benefit, but they probably need to know for child care rebate. That and perhaps they may need to do a reconciliation payment to you at the end of the financial year.

That's all I can come up with...

What is a crn? There are children that centrelink have never heard about, what happens if they want to go to childcare?

Eta; you don't need a Medicare card to go to the doctor

there is no income test on CCR, you should be eligible for that.

We used to call it Centrespank when I worked in Job Services.
